Here are a few comments from parents:

I learned to be more patient and less judgmental or authoritative when they are having a bad day, feeling overwhelm and frustrated.

I learned so much about myself and have changed the way I parent and listen.

The week gap between classes was good, allowing for practice. My habits are die hard; I would like support going ahead.

I was settling for things I didn’t need to settle on and trying to change things I can’t change. So helpful to understand all the points of perspective, character and tools I can use to coach my kids.

I don’t feel so alone now. I have hope.

I just want to let you know that your classes have helped me more than you know.  The take-away from this has been that I find it easier to create a more “positive intent” when it comes to trying to zero in and bring about positive changes where I feel like things are lacking.” Poway dad of 2 girls

As a teen I was very disconnected from my parents and made many poor choices, reaping the consequences. As unfortunate as this was, it became great motivation to help families and it became my life’s work. I remember thinking as a teen, “If I ever find anything to help youth I will tell people about it for rest of my life.” I wanted to help families avoid having to go through what we went through.

So I went to college and university to study counseling and social work. After graduation I worked at a ranch that cared for kids from social services and corrections. Each staff home had two children join their own families and that is where all my theory from school was put to work.

What I experienced was wonderful and as the years developed I continued working with the families in crisis, working in reunification then teaching and training other foster homes and natural families.  It was amazing how a few key principles could go such a long way.

This isn’t rocket science, you just need persistence and a few gentle nudges in the right direction.

In 2012 I met a fellow speaker at a parenting forum named Diana Sterling. I have been working with families since the early 1980’s, and privileged to experience wonderful turnarounds of families in crisis. When I met Diana and read her book “The Parent as Coach Approach,” I saw the principles and tools that I’ve been using for thirty plus years presented in a succinct and tangible fashion. I promptly took her year-long course and became a certified family coach.

Now I teach the renowned four-week coaching program based on her book that has been applied successfully by countless families in over 15 countries, cultures and languages. I also provide a 1-1 family coaching program and have had the privilege of seeing dozens of families strengthened and enjoying their lives together.
