Perhaps you are noticing a theme as we share tips for our journey?
Everything is WITH God’s help.
We all know this intellectually and would say we are relying on God’s help. But what does this really look like?
It can be tricky to receive help from Someone who is invisible…even if He is always with us.
What do we need?
I believe we need constant reminders that God is with us as a Helper, Teacher, Guide and so much more. Why do I think we need reminders? Because I often hear people say, “This is just so hard.” Yes, I say it too!
This phrase comes up in all sorts of situations.
…it’s hard to forgive people who don’t deserve it.
…it’s hard to stop doing what I don’t want to do
…it’s hard to always do what is right
We think, say, and hear this so often that we forget:
It’s not only hard, it’s impossible on our own.
Here is the plain fact. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, and our standing in Jesus – all these things are possible. If they weren’t, He wouldn’t have suggested them! God knows us too well. Paul reminds us in Galatians.
Galatians 2:21 “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
God gave us a Helper.
John 14:16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.
What is true
Here are some facts to contemplate this week:
- What truly is hard is forgetting who we are in Jesus and trying to live life with our own strength.
- What is truly hard is getting stuck in unforgiveness and letting bitterness grow.
- What is truly hard is continuing to reap the consequences of poor decisions when the Helper wants to help you.
So, the next time you hear yourself saying, “But it’s so hard.” Remember…
