Are you concentration challenged?

The past weeks have been filled with challenges and yet with God’s help and praying friends, I am growing in my awareness of God’s presence right in the middle of it all! I have been greatly encouraged by the devotional book by Sarah Young, Jesus Calling. It is very popular right now and several people I know are reading it daily. Each day has a short thought to encourage us.

The times where my health is very poor and I cannot read much, I get a hold of one sentence or thought at the beginning of the day and keep re-visiting it. I shared this with a mom of a very active 2 year old. Both of us are facing times where we cannot concentrate for very long. If she tries to read to her daughter, she gets restless and grabs the book and rips the pages. So with this devotional, it is short enough to read a bit and then carry the theme on. We even thought together how they could draw pictures together about the message.

Nov 16 – As you look at the day before you, you see a twisted, complicated path, with branches going off in all directions. You wonder how you can possibly find your way through that maze. Then you remember the One who is with you always, holding you by your right hand. You recall My promise to guide you with My counsel, and you begin to relax.

Here is another devotional that I found so helpful.

Nov 15 – Approach problems with a light touch. When your mind moves toward a problem area, you tend to focus on that situation so intensely that you lose sight of Me. You pit yourself against the difficulty as if you had to conquer it immediately. Your mind gears up for battle, and your body becomes tense and anxious. Unless you achieve total victory, you feel defeated.

There is a better way. When a problem starts to overshadow your thoughts, bring this matter to Me. Talk with Me about it and look at it in the Light of My Presence. This puts some much-needed space between you and your concern, enabling you to see from my perspective. You will be surprised at the results. Sometimes you may even laugh at yourself for being so serious about something so insignificant.

You will always find trouble in life. But more importantly, you will always have Me with you, helping you to handle whatever you encounter. Approach problems with a light touch by viewing them in My revealing light.  Psalm 89:15, John 16:33

Thank you Sarah. I read in your introduction about your struggle with health and I continue to pray for you and thank God for the good He brought from what the enemy intended for evil!
