Lioness Arising

Posted by Shell in Hanging on the Vine | Relationships | Study

I was inspired with this book as I have been with other books by Lisa Bevere about women.  I found myself becoming happier to be a woman and less ashamed of what I had previously considered weaknesses.  She writes beautifully and I am left more in admiration of who men are created to be as well.  The competition is eliminated and the call to community is loud and clear.

I loved every chapter – but particularly highlighted two points in chapter 8.

From page 150 – “When the lioness does kill, more often than not, she does not tear or rend her prey.  She suffocates it by blocking off its air passages.  Likewise, I believe it’s time we too block the enemy’s air supply.  One way we can do this is by stop lending him our breath.  Too frequently we give him too much to work with.  We should cut off his force by not speaking against one another.  Instead, let’s skillfully use our words to build, admonish, correct and encourage.”

From page 151 “In this hunt I need other women who understand my strengths and undergird my weaknesses – and so do you.  To accomplish this, I have chose to intentionally surround myself with people who are strong where I am weak.  It is my earnest prayer that I may lend these friends my strength in their areas of weakness. Healthy, balanced relationships are those where each member has a contribution.”
