We can because He did

Have you ever wondered why some places in the Bible talk about things that are already done, and then other places where we are instructed to do what He previous tells us that is done.

For instance read the following Col 2v11 Paul says that Jesus has put off our sinful nature having been baptised with him and raised through faith in the power of God.  Then the in Col 3: 1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

What is it?  Has he done it or do we do it?

The key is found in the word “reckon”. This term is used in Romans 6v11 and again in chapter 8.  It is an accounting term that means “count, compute, calculate, count over”.  What God is calling us to is to act on what is true.  To consider, take into account, weigh, meditate on and make decisions from the truth that we no longer live to ourselves, but our life is hidden with Christ in God.

So – do the math – we can because He did.
