I am slugging through (reading) the Old Testament.  I get frustrated as it seems that the stories are non stop about people doing very stupid things and trying to fulfill God’s promises in their ways.

It didn’t take me long after articulating this complaint to realize I do the same thing.  Trying to carry out God’s commands and promises in my strength and according to my own ideas.
